If you're planning to stay in Waikīkī, expect the drive to Ko Olina to take about 45 minutes to an hour each way.
Traffic is heaviest on weekdays between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, especially on the H-1 heading westbound toward Ko Olina.
Getting there
Flying
Fly into HNL (Daniel K. Inouye International Airport), the main airport on O‘ahu. It’s conveniently located in the middle of the island.
Getting an Uber, Lyft, or taxi to your hotel usually runs around $30–60, depending on where you’re staying. Fares and travel times may be higher if you’re heading to Ko Olina or traveling during peak hours (after 3 PM).
Getting around
We will be honest — there aren’t a lot of transportation options in Hawaii.
If you plan to explore more of O‘ahu beyond Waikiki or Ko Olina — East Side, North Shore, or other scenic spots around the island — we recommend renting a car. It’s easier, faster, and usually cheaper than calling Uber after Uber, leaving you more time to soak up the sun and enjoy the adventure.
